Welcome to “Life is but a Dream” (Part 2)

“The Space You Leave Behind”

Probably the most difficult of all of the pieces in this show to complete.  If you have lost a pet, you know that loss creates a different kind of sorrow.  Their passing is more bittersweet, maybe because animals cannot speak to tell us what they need at the end.  But, I sense that they too pass on to a more golden tomorrow, and maybe we’ll see them all again someday.

“Beyond”

Painted in a music fueled frenzy.  I was not sure what to title it until I began rotating the piece, trying to determine which way to hang it.  I realized that at its final orientation, it becomes less abstract and a whole scene emerges....

“The Seventh Stage”

Another tricky title, although in this case I had a title in mind; however I went back and forth on whether to name it after the original theory on the five stages of grief or the recently expanded seven stages - or even nine!

"The Seventh Stage" had the most poetic sound to it, though, and that ultimately decided it.

Thank you for taking the time to look behind the scenes! I hope you enjoy my show. - Nina Boyd
