“Life is But a Dream” an exploration of life, death, and everything in between
My show “Life is But a Dream” opens on October 4th, 2025 at the Lodi Community Art Center: 110 W Pine Street, Lodi CA 95240. Join me for an opening reception on October 4th, 4:00-6:00PM. When you are at the show, enjoy these extra “behind the scenes” looks here. My show explores one of my favorite concepts: how we experience and process the beauty of the world while anticipating the inevitable loss we encounter as mortal beings. The pieces I’ve created for this show explore the richest parts of life: the fleeting ones. Sometimes those moments are the daydreams in which we lose ourselves, then barely remember when we emerge into the waking world. Sometimes those moments are the brief glimpses of beauty we try to capture forever. Below are deeper looks at three of the pieces that will be on display.
“Loss” acrylic painting by Nina Boyd
“Loss”
“Loss” depicts a figure reaching across a glowing light into an abstract nebula of color. The colors opposite the figure mirror her own palette, almost as though she is searching the space across from her for someone who used to complement her - a partner, her other half - but that someone has now moved on to an unrecognizable form: still felt, still present, but no longer tangible in the figure’s world.
“Time Watches Us: Fall” oil pastel by Nina Boyd
“Time Watches us: Fall”
“Time Watches Us: Fall” is part of a four part series showing time personified: we always talk about time passing us by, but what would time look like if it was watching us pass it by? Maybe time does watch us, since we often don’t notice it, and season by season it observes us, unseen…
“Pull” colored pencil by Nina Boyd
“Pull”
“Pull” explores the question, what does our psyche do to us? How trapped are we by our own thoughts, desires, and fears? Can we ever escape them?
